IAI NEWS - http://www.iainstitute.org

Summertime!

It's Summer for most of the board at the IA Institute. Board activity has been a bit slower with travel (Christian, Livia), marriage (Andrew) and job changes (Christian, Russ and Andrew) affecting many of us. The good news is we have active working groups covering IDEA - we announce our date soon - and other initiatives, so read on.

Student and Local Groups

Brad Nunnally is officially stepping up to lead Student Groups initiative. Andrew Hinton will serve as Board sponsor. They are going to pilot this as a loose affiliation model: any student group renews participation by having a faculty member be a member of the Institute. (They want to do more, but more details later). We'll have a template model that other groups can mirror. Brad had a good meeting with Kent State University, who worked on a plan of action. Some interesting ideas included offering support with promoting and finding speakers for student-planned events.

Andrew Hinton has been in touch with Institute members in Sao Paulo, Brazil to work on exploring a Local Group pilot.

Alliance News

We are exploring additional alliances with professional organizations that lie outside the IA/User Experience space. Bev Corwin, Institute member and mentor, is in discussion with two translations organizations to determine how our organizations can collaborate. We expect the first step to be a sponsor table/registration swap at our respective conferences followed by more discussion. If you are a member of an organization that has potential affinities with the IA Institute, please contact us at info@iainstitute.org. Also, we are continuing our discussions with IxDA around Mentoring.

Member Initiatives

  • Translations: The translations team welcomed two new translators, Rianne Stolwijk (Dutch) and Simone Economo (Italian). The team mobilized to update Frequently Asked Questions for translating articles and web content and to develop more streamlined web structure for language sites.
  • IA Glossary: We are moving foward on the review of the IA Glossary. Trent Sherrel is leading and Amy Silvers from the original team has agreed to serve as an advisor. Thanks, Amy!
