IAI NEWS - http://iainstitute.org/news/
Last month in May, I had the pleasure of attending the Enterprise Search Summit East in New York City with IA Institute board member, Shari Thurow. Shari and I were on a quest to discover the role of information architecture in Enterprise Search. We didn’t have to look too far, as both days were keynoted by IA Institute veterans: former IA Institute president and CEO of FatDux, Eric Reiss, on Day 1 and IA Institute co-founder and Principal and Senior Consultant at InfoCloud Solutions, Inc., Thomas Vander Wal, on Day 2. IA Institute co-founder Bev Corwin was also in attendance and I quite was pleased to make a personal connection with a former coworker from PricewaterhouseCoopers, whom I hadn't seen in ten years.
IA/UX was a prominent theme. Throughout the conference we noted terminology from the information architecture/user experience umbrella nestled within discussion of ECM, SEO, text mining, predictive analytics, policy and governance. Terms like information glut, findability, folksonomy, facets, and rich semantics, as well as a big focus on the user experience. We noted concerns that most in the information architecture world will recognize, questions such as looking beyond what the tools do toward what the user needs are and communicating the value of enterprise search to management and the users themselves. Many search practitioners feel they are either on a frontier or deep in a jungle and are looking toward our world of IA to map out a solution for these problems. Where are you?

We are moving ahead on our plan to migrate our site to a new and more secure Drupal based system. The migration will include the launch of a more compact website and ultimately (finally) to a new aMember database system. With board member Shari Thurow's expert SEO help, we will be able to make additional improvements to the design of our web presence without compromising our position in the search rankings. However, because we decided to move on this a bit ahead of schedule, you may find that some of our pages are inaccessible and some resources will not be available during the migration and for some time afterwards as we perform quality assurance on new pages. Please be patient as we improve your experience. If you want to help, please contact us at email@example.com. We need database people, Drupal experience welcome, as well as data cleaners, QA technicians and (yes!) content strategists. Thank you for your patience.
