Get Ready! World IA Day Launches in February 2012

If you have been wondering what is going on with IDEA Conference, we are very proud to announce the evolution of our signature event into something bigger, braver and much more inclusive.

World Information Architecture Day, February 20121 DAY. 14 CITIES. The first ever World IA Day focuses on Designing Structures for Understanding. On February 11, 2012, we’re hosting WIAD events in 14 cities across all corners of the globe. Learn from world-class IA minds, network, showcase new ideas and attend events tailored specifically to your community. We hope you’ll join us at an event near you this February!

World IA Day 2012 is about bringing the Information Architecture community together. We’re fostering links within local communities and on a global scale. We’re sharing information, ideas and research. And we’re doing it through unconventional, exciting and engaging IA events this February.

Board of Directors Discuss New Direction - Podcast

Andrea Resmini, Dan Klyn, Dorian Taylor, and Jeff Parks met recently to share with the community upcoming changes to the IAI that will benefit members and the discipline of Information Architecture globally.  This is the first of what we hope to become a regular podcast by the IAI board of directors is up and available for download and streaming. (Time of Podcast: 17 minutes 42 seconds)

Exerpts:

Andrea: Iceland was useful to dig deeper into the global vision we had started shaping in late 2010. We wanted to reposition the IAI as the meeting point, the place to go, for practitioners, researchers and educators involved with IA.

Dorian: We created a conceptual framework that places the IAI in the middle of a set of mediated relationships. The purpose of this framework is to frame at the most abstract level what the IAI does, act as a litmus test for current initiatives and provide a template for future functions. (Dorian also provides an update on infrastructure projects.)

Dan: The IAI is cash positive at $64,000. We are focused on using this money to build a strong foundation for both the membership and future Board members to continually evolve and improve upon these initiatives. (Dan also offers a glimpse of changes to the IDEA Conference and announces the launch of World IA Day, 11 February 2012.)

Jeff:  We are working on building a stronger mentorship program that connect people both online and in person. In addition, volunteers are the backbone of every non-profit. We are working on ideas, and welcome other insights from our members, to align experiences and passions of volunteers with the specific needs of each event or initiative.

2011-2013 Board of Directors Election Opens September 10

Nominations for the 2011-2013 Board of Directors election have closed and candidates are busy preparing position statements. Candidate statements will be posted as soon as we get them, and a few are already available. We have an impressive list of candidates this year, and are looking forward to a very exciting contest.

We will be forwarding individual ballots to members in good standing on 10 September. Please update your membership information and renew if your membership has expired or is about to expire. We do not wish for anyone to be disenfranchised, but you need to be a member prior to the start of the election, if you wish to participate. Interaction Design Association (IxDA) - http://www.ixda.org
The IxDA is a non-profit professional organization whose focus is promoting both the field of interaction design and the interests of an international community of practitioners, managers, educators, and students of interaction design.

Entry deadline for IxDA’s inaugural Interaction Awards has been extended to September 22, 2011.  This is a new contest celebrating global excellence in the discipline of Interaction Design.
