Announcing the Annual Members Meeting in Baltimore!

The IA Institute Annual Members Meeting will take place on Saturday, April 6th at 6:30pm at the Waterfront Marriott in Baltimore. Please bring your questions and observations or send them to us by email. We are looking for lots of member participation and will have the 2012 Annual Report available.

Our annual meeting takes place concurrently with the Information Architecture Summit, being held at the Waterfront Marriott on April 3-7. If you are attending the IA Summit, please stop by our booth for information about the members meeting and other activities of the IA Institute.

This year we are presenting a pre-conference session on Wednesday, April 3: "Reframing Information Architecture: A Round Table Workshop." Visit http://reframe-ia.org for details and a speaker list. There is still a chance to participate as an observer/auditor. A small fee of $50 covers bare costs of the workshop.

World IA Day Recap

World IA Day, February 9, 2013, One Day, 15 CitiesWorld IA Day was amazing. We hope that many of you were able to attend a World IA Day festival near you. If you were not able to attend, we have an abundance of slides, videos, stories, tweet streams and more available for you to review. Just go to the World IA Day website and select the location of your choice to view conference materials. Local coordinators are continuing to post additional materials so keep checking back.

We are posting links to these materials in the IA Library and could use help. If you would like to volunteer to help, we are especially looking for people who attended the events to write abstracts and fill in metadata for each item that we include. This would be a great opportunity for a MLIS candidate who is interested in online libraries.

Once again, a huge thank you to our global World IA Day Local Coordinators, volunteers and Sponsors.

IA Institute and W3C Launches Information Architecture Group

With the support of members of the Information Architecture Institute, the W3C has launched an Information Architecture Community Group. Big thanks to IA Institute Development Manager, Bev Corwin, for getting this started. If you would like to participate, please join the group at:

The mission of this group is to discuss, and share matters relating to the profession of Information Architecture. Help us spread awareness of Information Architecture and connect with other Information Architecture pros globally and locally.

This group will not produce specifications, nor will we be writing standards of practice. The W3C writes the tools that we work with in our daily lives. Our participation is solely to advise and develop IA awareness at the W3C. For more information or questions, contact Bev at development@iainstitute.org.

Website Update: Intelligent Heterogeneity

Dorian Taylor has posted an update on his efforts to clobber two big uglies in the IAI website effort: single sign-on across all systems, and unifying the presentation layer.

The Power of Collaboration
by Andrea Ruskin
A quote that I stumbled on during grad school stuck with me. From the story of the elder’s box as told by Eber Hampton, it sums up my philosophy of working and teaching: “How many sides do you see?” “One,” I said. He pulled the box towards his chest and turned it so one corner…

NEW LIBRARY ADDITIONS - http://iainstitute.org/library/

The IA Library is a selection of resources related to the field of information architecture. The collection includes articles, books, blogs, translations and more. Each month, we will post the latest entries to the IA Library in this newsletter.

We are in the process of adding links to slides and videos from World Information Architecture Day. Since we had 21 locations, this is going to be a big job. If you would like to help out, please send an email to volunteer@iainstitute.org.

This month we are adding publications from sister organizations including ACM, ASI, ASIS&T and UXPA. Some of these were already in our library, but we thought a full list of publications would be useful to our readers.
