Announcing Kaarin Hoff, World IA Day Producer

WIAD2014_logoThe IA Institute Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Kaarin Hoff as global executive producer for the 3rd annual World Information Architecture Day. Scheduled for February 15 in locations to be announced this Fall, the global event expands to 16 cities in 2014 to mark sixteen years since the first publication of Louis Rosenfeld and Peter Morville's seminal book Information Architecture for the World Wide Web (O'Reilly Media). Events around last year's WIAD observance formed a truly global conversation about the practice of information architecture, in locations spread across six continents and 16 countries.

Kaarin Hoff is an information architect in Ann Arbor, Michigan and co-produced last year's WIAD event at the University of Michigan.

The board appointed Ms. Hoff by unanimous decision and is deeply grateful for the massive amount of volunteer effort she's signing up for. Please consider joining her by visiting the website: http://worldIAday.org.

Seeking IA Institute Infrastructure Producer

imagePlease consider joining the IA Institute's Infrastructure Working Group, a standing committee to organize the IAI's content resources, the website they reside on, and the member benefits derived from it. A description of the group can be found here: http://stage.iainstitute.org/infrastructure-working-group. We can use help immediately on the following positions:

* Producer/Project Manager
* Alpha (interaction design) lead
* Gamma (information architecture) lead

At this point, we are most in need of a Producer/Project Manager to organize and cheer-lead the team progress, but most of all to serve as a mentor to the team. We are looking at a new and innovative way to re-imagine structured information. Our chief ambition is to create a space where IAI members can try things can't do in their day jobs. It's exciting and scary, so the PM needs to be able to channel that nervous energy into productive output. It’s a challenging position, but ultimately the PM will have demonstrated leadership at the frontier of IA practice and the semantic web.

If this sounds like a good challenge, please let us know! You can email your resume to us at info@iainstitute.org. If you are interested in joining the team or simply wish to monitor progress, please join the infrastructure list at  http://lists.iainstitute.org/listinfo.cgi/infrastructure-iainstitute.org.

The 9th European Information Architecture Conference
September 26-28, 2013, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Over the past nine years, we have broken down cultural barriers, initiated dozens of conferences across Europe, and forged careers. We are proud of our accomplishments, but we know we can achieve even more.

Today, our focus is on breaking down global barriers and sharing information far beyond European borders. This is why our programme now features presentations from the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific Rim.

Yet we remain European. So, what is “Europe”? In terms of geography, we’re east of Greenland, west of Moscow, south of the Artic, and north of the Mediterranean. But the geography is secondary. “Europe” is more a state of mind than an area on a map. But that doesn’t make it less distinct.

Learn.  Share.  Network.

Emotional Design with A.C.T. – Part 2
Designing Emotion, Personality and Relationship
by Trevor van Gorp
Back in Part 1, we looked at how the emotions expressed by people and products communicate personality traits over time. We also learned that customers are attracted to things that have an aesthetic personality that’s similar to their own,1 but they prefer products that take on a complementary role during interaction.2 In Part 2, we’ll…

UXPA 2013 DC Redux
Well, I’ve had a few weeks distance from the UXPA conference in DC: time enough to recuperate and reflect. For those of you who couldn’t make it to the conference in DC, we missed you. We missed your conversation, your company at meals, your insightful presentations, your stimulating questions. And I’d like to share a little bit of what you missed in the hopes that we’ll see you very soon at another UXPA conference. (There’s one in Shanghai in November and one in London in 2014!).
