New Partner: Web Indexing SIG
IAI is proud to announce a partnership with the Web Indexing SIG of the American Society of Indexers. The Web Indexing SIG promotes the human indexing of Web sites and HTML documents. Its members are professional indexers who have skills to create A-Z site indexes or perform metadata indexing of HTML documents. The SIG web site provides resources on web site indexing for the broader IA community.
According to Heather Hedden, Coordinator of the Web Indexing SIG, Site A-Z indexes are considered a component of information architecture and are described as a method of search and navigation in Lou Rosenfeld and Peter Morville's book Information Architecture. Where the book lacks detailed explanations on how to create site indexes, the tools available and the techniques involved, the Web Indexing SIG offers to provide this information to members of the IA Institute. The IA Institute might also gain members from Web Indexing SIG members, who are indexers familiar with HTML and interested in web site design.
The Web Indexing SIG is sponsoring a panel of presentations "Case Studies in HTML Indexing" at the joint meeting of the American Society of Indexers and Indexing and Abstracting Society of Canada in Toronto, June 15-17. There will also be a post-conference workshop in creating web site indexes. Links to both organizations' conference websites are as follows:
